2023 Advent - Day 5

Worship

As you prepare yourself for worship, listen to the following song, and sing along if you know it: "For the Cause" by Keith & Kristyn Getty

As you worship, meditate on the mission of Jesus.

Hear

Read the following passage: Deuteronomy 18: 15-19

As you study, consider the promise given to the people of Israel of the coming Messiah. Then, answer the questions below to dive deeper!

Reflection Questions:

  • Have you ever struggled with listening to or understanding the words of God?
  • How is Jesus the true and better Moses, particularly when it comes to Him being our mediator?
  • What are some examples of Jesus speaking with the authority of God the Father? Why is this important?
  • What does this passage teach you about the purpose of Jesus as He came into the world?

Pray

Lord, we thank You for proclaiming all the words of the Father. We praise You for Your mission of drawing us into a right relationship with You. Please equip us to go help others experience Your love.

Definition

God is guiding my life through the truths revealed in Scripture. I hear from God, and I have a growing awareness of what His Word says and what it means.

Memory Verse

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.

Psalm 1:1-2

Get Started: As part of your Daily Time With God, read or listen to the Bible

You can read a physical Bible, or read/listen using a Bible app (we recommend YouVersion).

Priority = After you’ve spent time in worship, read or listen to the Bible. Plan for 5x per week. All of us occasionally “miss”...that’s normal. The key is to do your best to not miss 2 consecutive days.

Pray = Ask God to help you understand what you read. He promises to “lead us into truth” (John 16:13).

Plan = Decide what you’re going to read. We recommend reading at least a paragraph at a time…and working up to larger chunks. A predefined reading plan makes this easier. Here are some ideas:

 • Join the Church Reading Plan

 • Read 1 John, then Gospel of John, then all the New Testament (Matthew-Revelation)

 • Pick a book of the Bible and read straight through. If you are just getting started (or even re-started), we recommend you start in the New Testament.
